We decided one of the central characters will be a corrupt cop due to the characters affiliation with our crime/thriller genre and the high number of possible storylines. He plays the antagonist in our final production.
We were all allocated into groups by our teacher and my group happened to consist of three males. At first I saw this as a disadvantage as it would limit the amount of genres we could work with, then I realised an all male cast allows us to work on a variety such as crime thriller/ espionage/ action.
Our initial idea had setbacks from the beginning. We intended on creating a plot about two cousins scamming a bank to pay for their mothers medication. The story was inspired by the idea of Robin Hood stealing from the rich to give to the poor. The problems arised whilst recce trying to create a bank enviroment and the complexity of maintaing the story line would reduce the quality of the end production severley. We were also told by our teacher that the mother aspect of our story may be to soft for a crime thiller.
Our second story which went into full production seemed like it had overcome all setbacks wasnt successful eithr. We addressed the genre issue and ensured the story line was a true crime thrill, but again the locations and time managment preventing the production quality reaching its full potential. The storyline was to do with a young criminal robber who is captured by a crooked cop. The crooked cop offers him freedom in exchange for all of his riches. The opening scene to the movie begins with the main character in a dark interrogation room who is soon accompanied by a ruthless crooked agent. With no introduction the crooked agent abruptly asks for a sum of the money from the main character in order for him to carry on with his life as a free man. The main character, Jason, continuously tells the crooked agent that he doesnt know what they have got him in holding for but the agent tells him to stop trying to lie as he throws a envelope of evidence onto the interrogation table which then finally persuades Jason to play the dirty games of the crooked agent. Jason, reluctant to hand over his stolen money tries to hand the crooked agent a bag full of fake money as a deperate attempt to get away with all the money he has. But before he leaves the office he is caught out by the now highly tempered crooked agent who then hands Jason an ultimatum or else his life as he knows it will be futher spent in incarceration. The opening of the film ends there as Jason goes into a battle against a smart but ruthless agent.
Our final film has made a huge improvement in the sense that we simplified the plot whilst maintaining the quality needed. My contribution was finding the perfect location which is a big factor of footage, without using a flyover bridge over a dual carriageway at night with the beauty of speeding car lights and shadowed urban residential surroundings I doubt the film would have seemed as theatrical as it does. I was also the cameraman and decided how the shots should be taken, from what distance, and where the cuts should be made etc. My partner Sagars contributions were writing the script and choosing character roles, he also did a fantastic job acting as a crooked cop. Sagar was also contributed with the editing creating the titles and downloading unique fonts for our intro. For our 1st two initial ideas we had a 3rd member of our group whos only job was to act but our group was reduced to a two man project due to unavoidable reasons. We then got the help of a good friend to act as the drug dealer.
The drug dealer in our film opposes conventions and is portrayed as the protagonist.
The film begins as our main protagonist who is young a successful drug dealer recieves a phonecall from his friend, the conversation that follows exposes his anxiety and fear of being caught by police for the crimes he has commited. He says to friend during the phonecall that he is "paro" ,slang for scared, of being apprehended by police, then demands that his friend meets him on a bridge that was they used to hang out on in their younger childhood days so they can smoke some cannabis to relax his mind. As soon as this phone call ends a POV shot shows a phone number being rung by the name of "C.I.D Detective". The scene then cuts to a man dressed in a leather jacket standing with his back to the camera answering the phone, this being the C.I.D Detective. The C.I.D Detective is then heard being told the whereabouts of the young drug dealer. This creates a sense of betrayal as the audience immediately assume the friend has become an informant for the C.I.D. The C.I.D Detective is then scene abruptly entering his car to drive to the bridge. The next scene shows the young drug dealer walking up the ramp to the bridge then another phonecall comes through to the drug dealers phone. As he answers the phone a dark figure is seen appearing behind him on the entrance of the bridge. This could only mean two things, that his friend has arrived or that it is the C.I.D Detective but the phonecall identifies that his friend is still on his way and is parking his car. As the phone is rung up a gun is reloaded and the drug dealer turns around to shout out "Who the fuck are you?" and pulls out a firearm of his own. A exchange of words occurs and the camera zooms in to the bridge from the road. The camera cuts and a gun shot is heard as the ending creating a cliffhanger plot leaving the audience with awe and curiosity to who shot who.
